This is what Shaheen says about himself:

Shaheen (all pronouns) was born in 1985 to a white German and a Black US-American family in Hesse, Germany. She has lived in Berlin since 2006. She grew up in the home of his two white mothers and moved to Berlin in 2006 to study. While living abroad in England, he became a witness to the 2011 London Riots after 29-year-old Mark Duggan was shot by a police officer during his planned arrest. Since then, Shaheen has been capturing moments of Black history with their camera, describing the reality in a misanthropic social system from an identity-laden perspective. As part of a feminist women's collective, they co-founded the initiative Black Lives Matter Berlin in 2017, but had to stop the work after two years due to an impending burnout. Since 2021, he has been active as a project coordinator and consultant in the context of educational work critical of racism and celebrating violence.

This is particularly important to Shaheen in her work:

When we talk about tools critical of discrimination, we mean creating fragile spaces and making multi-layered positions visible. Fundamental to this is the perception of simultaneous and intertwined power relations. Therefore, we always 'enter' our spaces such as workshops, trainings or seminars with positioning exercises. Fragile spaces allow all positions to be present in the space. This means that they must not only be approachable, but also discussable.
