Act - Mandhla
Mandhla about herself:
I am a 24 year old trans-feminine gender non-comforming multimedia
performance artist born and raised in Zimbabwe, Africa. I bring a blend of
experimental R&B and Soul music intertwined with visual projections and
performative dancing. My music speaks of the daily trials that Trans*, enby and
femme* immigrant bodies experience daily with love, identity, sex and
acceptance.
This is why Mandhla decided to perform at in*vision:
I am participating in INVISION as it is a wonderful opportunity to connect with
siblings, and play music for those who understand what is being said. It is also
important to decolonise black spaces and be more visible, as to remove the
inherent transphobia* and queerphobia* that is rampant in the black community.
My existence is political, and I am at INVISION to challenge that.
This is what is especially important to Mandhla, as an artist:
To be able to connect with black femmes* and trans* bodies through media and to be able to convey and further
represent themes and conversations that need to be had.
