Act - Aka Kelzz
This is what Kelzz says about Kelzz:
I am known as Aka Kelzz, Kelly, Kellz or K from the United Kingdom. A singer-songwriter with a passion for sharing my experiences dealing with depression, trauma, and a new understanding of love. I work as a community organizer and support the black queer community at GLADT
e.V. I want to share my experiences with people who look like me - me, a thick dark skinned queer person.
My music is about being authentic and sharing my journey no longer accepting the "strong black woman" narrative. I like to
describe my sound as pop\rnb that takes you on a trippy, ethereal journey of honesty, transparency, and vulnerability.
This influences Kelzz's music:
My life, my struggles, my ancestors, and my desire to share my experiences with people who look like me and where the world is constantly against them and telling them they are not worthy. In the music scene, I have a hard time finding a lot of queer, fat, dark-skinned people who not only do the grunt work but are celebrated and valorized for it. That's what drives my art and me.
What is most important to Kelzz's art:
Visibility! That means being able to share my music, my body, and my words with people who look like me and struggle with similar issues as I do. And sharing the honest side of coming to terms with what you've been taught in your life.
Issues like identity, racial discrimination, and queer feminism.
